Montreal Franchise
The league announced today that they will have a special announcement on Thursday at Noon (eastern) about the new team in Montreal. It will be held at Centre Pierre-Charbonneau. Sounds to me like the NBL has got this thing back on track very fast. The arena holds 2,700 for basketball...perfect size for a new team in a new market. I have no doubt that if this team is marketed properly they will be a HUGE success in what is now the NBL's largest market.
So now on Thursday we just watch and find out who the owner is, and what the name of the team will be.
Any guesses?

I'm gonna guess they will go the cheapest route and continue to call the team The Kebs.
Sure, there's an infinite number of better teams and better logos out there, but my money in on the same identity the club has always had.

I really don't think they will be called the Kebs. This entire move seems to be all about starting fresh. Not Kebs, not Royal, not Matrix and not Sasquatch. All of those names bring failure to mind right away. I'm hoping for something brand new here, and I think the league is too.
I'm guessing it will be a name that translates from French to English easily, as no doubt they will be looking to draw from both the francophone and anglophone demographics.

I've been searching around Twitter etc and it looks like they will be coached by Alejandro Hasbani, and known at the Montreal Jazz, or Le Jazz de Montreal.
I have to say that I LOVE this name and can't wait to see the logo on Thursday! Plus, unlike the Utah Jazz (Do they even allow music in the state of Utah? ) the name ACTUALLY makes sense. I'm sure everyone is well aware of the amazing Montreal Jazz Festival.
Well done, NBL! Looks like the league nailed this one right on the head!

Re: Montreal Franchise
So it's the Montreal Jazz, eh? I'm not too fond of the fact that there is already an established NBA team with the same name, but it certainly suits the city of Montreal.
As for their visual identity, I'd like the owners of the Power and Mill Rats to take notice, because THIS is how you do a logo right.
The green and white contrast very well and I'm really digging the script they used for the name. That's just really sharp if you ask me. It's got a bit of a retro look that I think really works well.

That's a great logo especially "on the fly". Green and white are great basketball colours Not sure of the venue though. At least they only have to sell 2700 tix to fill it. Love that they're in the heart of Montreal though.

Re: Montreal Franchise
Hopefully they get a lot of support, being in a large market doesn't always guarantee that. Sometimes big cities don't support "smaller" leagues. But with no Habs playing and the college/CFL season finishing up the outlook is good. The logo is pretty nice and Jazz is definitely better than the Montreal Just for Laughs. So festival wise, I'd say they chose correctly.

Re: Montreal Franchise
^ That's true, but I the chances of success do increase with a larger local fanbase which is one advantage this club will have over others in the league.
Also, anyone check out the team's new threads?
Now THAT'S classy!

That does look good. I'll have to check out some game pics to see if that is accurate. Curious only because of the Nike symbol while I believe everyone else in the league has MoneyBall as the uniform maker.
