On Sunday, September 30th, 2012 the Oshawa Power hosted their player showcase that saw 32 participants come out and compete for an invitation to the official training camp of the Power. The team also hosted their first press conference of the 2012-2013 season making announcements about ticket sales and player additions.

Oshawa Mayor, John Henry was in attendance encouraging citizens of Oshawa and the Durham Region to purchase their tickets and support the local team, which go on sale October 15th, 2012.

The Power also announced roster moves which included the re-signing of Jushay Rockett along with new additions, Jermaine Love and Jesse Young. Rockett, a 6’6” forward from Long Beach, California was a force to be reckoned with on the defensive end for the Power. Rockett averaged 6.5 rebounds per game and recorded 15 blocks in the 2011-2012 season.

Love, a 6’2” guard from Chicago Heights, Illinois is a recent graduate from the University of Illinois-Springfield. Love averaged 16.5 points per game in his senior year for the Prairie Stars.

Young has a wealth of basketball experience from his university career at George Mason University to playing professionally in Europe and being a member of the Canadian Men’s National Team participating in the 1999 & 2003 Pan American Games. He also played in the FIBA Americas Championship in 2007. The Power are excited to bring in home grown talent with the addition of Peterborough’s Young as they believe he will be a valuable member of the team on and off the court.

“For me, this is a great experience,” says Young who attended the Power Showcase on Sunday. “I live 40 minutes away. So to be a part of the Oshawa community and to represent Oshawa/Peterborough is just incredible. I look forward to a great season, meeting the teammates, and getting to know the coaches. It’s going to be a good show.”

The Power will officially sign all three players pending approval from Canada Basketball. The team could not be more excited to have these players to be a part of the Power organization.

Kinda cool to see a local guy brought onto the team.
